Here at seaotter-space, we did not think that the alligator snapping turtle would become the 6th most endangered animal in the world, but it happened. It has a spiked shell, razor- sharp mouth lining, and a strange worm-like tongue. This tongue lures fish closer and closer until-SNAP!!! the snapping turtle lives up to its name. Fish is not the only thing an alligator snapping turtle will eat. It will partake anything it can swallow. That includes any part of you that sticks out close enough. On a freshwater animal 1 to 10 danger scale, 1 being a clam, and 10 being a crocodilian, the alligator snapping turtle rates an 8.5. It is endangered because people eat its eggs and meat too much.

This is a coelacanth. Scientists believe that coelacanths were a big step to fish evolving into amphibians. the coelacanths brain is 1.5 cranial knowledge, and the rest is fat. There is the coelacanth, but swimming not to far away from it is an entirely different species of coelacanth, known as the Indonesian coelacanth. There are only about 1,000 left, so they are considered an endangered species.

This is the alligator gar. While most gars are teeny tiny things, the biggest recorded gar caught was 10 feet long, a size they can maximize by 4. This is a critically endangered black crested macaque. It lives in groups of 5 to 25, the males being outnumbered 4 to 1(Although the males sometimes form bachelor groups). 70% of a black crested macaque's diet is fruit, the other 30% being leaves, buds, seeds, fungus, birds, bird eggs, insects, and the occasional lizard or frog. One captive, named Natasha, began walking on her hind legs after a stroke.

This is the silky sifaka lemur. It is one of the rarest animals on earth, and on the top 25 list of most endangered primates. They are called sifakas, because western dry forest sifakas give a hiss-like "shee faak". They spend 25% of the day feeding, 44.4% resting, and 16.8% devoted to social behavior, traveling, and sleeping. They are endangered due to deforestation. To help gain a psychological bond between lemurs and children, groups of children were taken on a three day eco tour in Marojejy national park in madagascar, the only place the sifaka lives.

This cute birds is a Hawaii akepa. It opens 'Ohi'a-lehua leaf buds and looks for caterpillars, and has a beak specialized for this task. Its cousins, the Maui akepa, and the O'ahu akepa went extinct in the 90's. The Hawaii akepa is endangered because of avian malaria, and avian pox.

These are velvet worms. Three species of these worms are critically endangered. They spray slime from slime glands. These are a prime food source for many animals, so if it died out, it would probably cause a chain reaction.

This is the Emei moustache toad. As you can see, it has a stache made out of spikes. It also has an interesting series of eye colors, from blue-green to brown. It hides under leaves or rocks during the day, and comes out to eat snails and insects. Although it is protected by chinese law, it is still illegally sold as a pet.

This is the vanishing hairy eared dwarf lemur. It is very rare, and we do not know very much about it. There are an estimated 1,000 to 100 left. It was thought to be extinct, until it was "rediscovered" by a malagasy in 1966.

This bird is a mangrove hummingbird. We do not know very much about it, but we DO know 3 things; 1: it can beat its wings up to 100 times per second. 2: its favorite food is mangrove nectar. 3: there are areas of mangrove that seem like perfect habitats, but a hummingbird has never been seen there.

This is a bleeding toad, or a fire toad as some call it. One of the three places it is found is mount galunggung, which erupted in 1982. Ouch. After that, one was not seen until 2003. Hopes for these guys are high.

Yes, this is a duck. But it is not just ANY duck, it is the madagascar teal, the rarest duck in the world. We don't know very much about it, but we do know it is VERY territorial. It defends its eggs fiercely, and when humans move into its territory, it packs up and moves. That is one of the reasons it is endangered.

This is a goliath grouper. The biggest one was 700 pounds! Still, it is a meal for a scalloped hammerhead. One is at discovery cove in Orlando, Florida. Its name is Boomer. Can you blame its previous owners? It can create a loud rumbling noise that travels far underwater. Boomer now rules the shark exhibit. Sadly, it is vanishing.

A popular aquarium fish, the silver shark -or bala shark- is actually a relative to minnow or carp, although looking at its shape, can you blame the name it has? Overfishing has seriously decreased its numbers. Its not safe for it in an aquarium either; it gets too big, and too active to be happy in a fish tank.

Don't make fun of the endangered proboscis monkey because his nose (witch has an unclear purpose) is huge, (he can make it smaller, so there!) and because he is fat (he can't help it if his diet that his stomach is adjusted to of red mangrove fruit+red mangrove leaves has gasses that bloat his stomach). His only pal, the painted terrapin, also has bully problems. Big, mean, humans steal his eggs, making him critically endangered. So these two are friends, and (this next part is 100 percent true, so they say) when a proboscis monkey is in a red mangrove, he throws fruit to the painted terrapins! 10 out of 10 friendship!
